Teaching Art

Some thoughts on Teaching:

-I like organization. Below is one way I’ve thought about organizing the curriculum for my beginning art class.

With in the Frame work of DBAE (Discipline Based Arts in Education)

Beginning Art

Units

Section 1 – Design and Concept

1. Principles of Design and Perception

2. Concept in Artworks

Section 2 – 2D Art

1. Drawing – pencil, silverpoint, ink

2. Painting – oil, acrylic, watercolor, pastel, wax(encaustic)

3. Other 2D Media and Mixed Media

Section 3 – 3D Art

1. Sculpture

2. Ceramics: Wheel and hand building

3. Metal: Jewelry, wire, other

4. Other 3D Media

Apply the 4 areas of DBAE (Discipline Based Arts in Education) to each unit:

a. Critique = Critical thinking and personal connection – evaluation, interpretation, analyze, comprehension

b. Art History = Prototypes for Principles of design, perception, business practices, as well as principals in other content areas. Learning from others experiences, involves other content area’s, more personal connections.

c. Aesthetics = Principles of design and perception

d. Production = Learn techniques and develop work for a portfolio including studies.
